Citizenship of Slovenia
The Slovenian Immigration Legislation implements two ways to decide if a foreigner can obtain Slovenian citizenship – naturalization and repatriation. The standard procedure for registration is naturalization. This takes roughly 10 years, requires residence in the country permanently, proficiency in the language and rejection of one’s current passport. On the other hand, the repatriation program gives you the ability to receive a Slovenian passport in less than 1 year.
The Citizenship Act No. 21
Article 12 of the Slovenian Citizenship Act grants people the right to restore their citizenship if they are born or residing in the territory of Slovenia, along with their relatives up to the 4th generation:

“Pristojni organ lahko, če je to v skladu z nacionalnim interesom, po prostem preudarku sprejme v državljanstvo Republike Slovenije slovenskega izseljenca in njegovega potomca do četrtega kolena v ravni črti, če dejansko živi v Republiki Sloveniji vsaj eno leto pred vložitvijo prošnje, če ima urejen status tujca in če izpolnjuje pogoje iz 1., 4., 5., 6., 7., 8., 9. in 10. točke prvega odstavka 10. člena tega zakona.”
